The Smurfit Kappa Foundation provides funding to the ECL Foundation to set up an ‘Outside Learning Classroom’ to create a learning environment in which children can flourish.
The ECL foundation is a young and growing international charity dedicated to bringing the practice of ecl into schools and communities throughout the world. We imagine that it is possible for every child and young person to flourish, to live their dreams – regardless of race, gender or income. And we work hand in hand with teachers, leaders, parents and care-givers in schools and communities to enable them develop the know-how to create learning environments to do just this.
The ECL Foundation approached Smurfit Kappa to help fund the setup of an ‘Outside Learning Classroom’ to create a learning environment in which children flourish. The funding provided by the Smurfit Kappa Foundation allowed for an extra room to be built together with the nurture centre to house a best practise centre. This centre will enable the teaching and training of the ECL approach to teachers, leaders and parents.
The intention is to make this practice available to all schools in similarly vulnerable communities throughout the UK. The second part of the funding from the Smurfit Kappa Foundation is to codify ECL-practice and from this develop training modules and a field book for (student) teachers.
