Olga | Russia

The charity “Olga” based in Russia provides support to children with physical and mental disabilities, as well as assisting their families.

The charity has a facility where artistic activities are provided to children. Within these studios, children with special needs and disabilities can study, communicate and socialise through various artistic media.

Specialised teachers and psychologists run one-on-one and group training sessions to discover and develop the individual talents of each child, to improve their communication and social skills, to develop their drawing skills and to encourage their ability to work with photo and video equipment. The studios provide these children with the support they need to better integrate into society. The primary outcomes of the project are to:

  • Improve the quality of life of children and their families
  • Create learning opportunities and help integrate into society
  • Attract public attention, creating care and respect towards the children’s needs

Smurfit Kappa Foundation was approached with a project to produce an animated film, with the involvement of the children who attend the studios. This film will be used to promote the Foundation, to illustrate the abilities of the children and to encourage a more tolerant, respectful outlook on their social, civil and educational rights. The film will be distributed across social media, newspapers, through art competitions and exhibitions. Smurfit Kappa Foundation provided €17,000 to aid in the production of this film, which will be completed in 2018.
