SOS Childrens Villages | Czech Republic
Smurfit Kappa Foundation is proud to support SOS Children’s Villages who are focused on helping vulnerable children in the Czech Republic.
SOS Children’s Villages is a project which started after the Second World War. Throughout the world, they are fighting for children’s rights and for a loving home for all children. While many of us regard the sanctuary of family as given, it is hard to imagine that there are situations where this is not the case. In the Czech Republic, SOS Children’s Villages are one of the largest organisations in the country, focused on helping vulnerable children. There are now three villages and 14 projects that support children and young people in need across the Czech Republic. The newest village, set up in Brno in 2003, is close to the Smurfit Kappas Czech plant in that town and they approached our Foundation for support in 2018.
The project needed financial support to improve the structural and transport needs of the facility. These tasks include:
- Replacement of fences and outdoor lighting
- Replacement of heating facilities in the office building
- Implementation of a playing field
- Reconstruction of a foster family home
- Contribution towards the purchase of an organisation car
Smurfit Kappa Foundation are proud to have partnered with SOS Children’s Villages and contributed €31,000 to their ongoing support needs. As a base of operations for Smurfit Kappa in the Czech Republic, it gives us great joy and pride to be able to assist the rehabilitation and support of the children of the Brno area.
