End poverty in all its forms everywhere

The Smurfit Kappa Foundation is deeply committed to supporting the local communities in countries where Smurfit Kappa Group operates. View a snapshot of the projects we have undertaken below, all of which align with one of our focus UN SDGs, "No Poverty"

We would like to acknowledge that whilst these projects are aligned to our focus UN SDG of No Poverty, many also contribute to other United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

No Poverty

Irish Red Cross – Ireland
With the start of the war in Ukraine, it was decided that the Smurfit Kappa Foundation would support the Irish Red cross with a donation of €200,000 to provide humanitarian aid to the people of Ukraine. Our donation helped the Red Cross provide life-saving aid including blankets, food, clothing, healthcare, first-aid, psycho-social support, hygiene kits, shelter and cash support.

Polish Medical Mission – Poland
A €200,000 donation was given to the Polish Medical Mission to help and support vulnerable people suffering due to the war in Ukraine. This helped to provide much needed aid to Ukrainians fleeing their country, such as medical assistance for hospitals, first aid posts on the Polish border, on-site doctors, vaccination programmes, field hospitals and help for neonatal wards.

Peter McVerry Trust – Ireland
The Peter McVerry Trust family hub in Glasnevin, Co. Dublin accommodates 13 families currently experiencing homelessness. However, there is a lack of space for their children to play. With a €5,000 donation from the Smurfit Kappa Foundation, a new play area was built in in this family hub so that the children can play outside in an area that’s safe and fun.
